International Thyroid Awareness Week

In 2007, members of the thyroid international alliance TFI selected May 25 as the "World Thyroid Day" in order to improve the thyroid health awareness of global residents.
In 2009, the week of this day was designated as "International Thyroid Awareness Week".

To Know the Thyroid

The thyroid is like a butterfly gland, located below the throat, and is an important endocrine glands in the human body. The hormone produced by the thyroid gland affects important physical function and regulate metabolism, including the heart, the brain, the liver, the kidneys, and the skin. It is a "engine" for the normal operation of the human body.

Different disease manifestations will occur when the thyroid secrete hormone abnormalities or abnormality of thyroid cells grow. Therefore, maintaining thyroid health is essential to the overall health of the body.

Classification of thyroid disease

Thyroid diseases are very common in the world, affecting all ages and multiple symptoms. The most common thyroid disease includes:

● Modang of thyroid: increased volume of thyroid;

● Hypertrophy of thyroid (referred to as "hyperthyroidism"): The ability to produce thyroid hormones in the thyroid gland is enhanced, and the output exceeds the body's needs. It is more common in young and middle -aged women. The clinical manifestations are mainly caused by too much thyroid hormone in the cycle. ● Thyroid nodules: the most common thyroid disease. The cause is not very clear, which may be related to endocrine disorders, high iodine diet, environmental factors, genetic factors, and history of radiation contact.

● Thyroid cancer: pathological manifestations are malignant thyroid nodules.

● Thyroiditis: thyroid injury and inflammatory response caused by virus attacks, immune destruction and other reasons.

Thyroid Biomarker

1. Types of thyroid hormone: including the measurement of thyroid poinelline (T4), trio iodine -like metharine (T3), free T4 (FT4), free T3 (FT3), and TSH. The TSH test is an important first -screen test for thyroid function. Patients with thyroid cancer who are treated with TSH inhibitory treatment also need to be regularly detected in the level of hemogenous glandular hormone, and left thyroidine (L-T4) is adjusted according to the test results.

2. Conditional antibody detection: The autoimmune thyroid disease -related auto antibodies mainly include anti -thyroid globulin antibodies (TGAB) and thyroid peroxidase antibodies (TPOAB).

Serum TG levels are affected by TGAB levels. When TGAB exists, it will reduce the detection value of serum TG and affect the accuracy of monitoring the condition through TG. Therefore, it is recommended to detect TGAB at the same time when the serum TG is determined.

TPO is a key enzyme in the process of thyroid hormone synthesis. The occurrence of TPOAB is usually earlier than thyroid dysfunction. Participating in the process of tissue destruction in the onset of thyroiditis and atrophic thyroiditis in the bridge, causing clinical hypothyroidism.
